Weekend #17

These last few weeks have been really busy! We now have soffit and facia and new windows! Soffits are the part of the house just under the roof (our old stuff was rotting) and facia is the white trim around the shingles.  I may not have accurately described it, but that is my understanding - either way it looks great! New windows have gone in in the last couple days.  All of the bedrooms had one window made larger so they can legally be called "bedrooms" and are up to code.  Apparently small children can't get out of windows that are four feet from the floor or something?? We also got a new front door and new outside insulation is going on before the siding.  The siding is actually being put on the house today!!!  In addition, the new garage floor has been poured and the stud walls in the living room are OUT!!
New windows in the front and the outer layer of insulation
Old front window and old insulation

Back of the house
New windows on the eastside - you can see the garage below which is prepped for new cement!!
New LARGER bedroom windows on the westside

Beginning of the demo of the backsteps.  Since this door is closed off we no longer need the steps.

New windows in the bedrooms.

This is the mess that is our living/kitchen/dining room.  Yuck.  BUT those stud walls are now gone! We had to have beams put in the attic before they could be knocked out.  Next post should have new siding pictures!!

Weekend #15

Holy Cats! I am slacking on blogging!!  Our weekends have gotten crazy for the summer! On May 23 (#12) my sister graduated from high school.  The next weekend (Memorial Day), Charlie and I attended Joey and Carla Bata's wedding in Bismarck, a birthday party in Casselton for cousin Damyn who turned 8, and we spent Monday on the lake with my family on our new pontoon "The Ron Burgundy."  The weekend of June 5 & 6, we watched my sister Laura's very last Thompson Summer Theater production of Cinderella - she was the Evil Stepmother and did fantastic! Charlie attended Lynde and Tyler Quirk's wedding in Grand Forks while I drove to Fort Ransom for my friend, Jenny Olson's bridal shower.  This weekend though, it was back to the house! We got a refridgerator! YAY!
Although Charlie and I have had crazy busy weekends, some productivity has occurred on the house.  A few weeks ago we had new shingles put on.  Those guys were machines! They worked from 7:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night and they were done in two days! The roof looks great!  In addition, we had the back bay window taken out and a new patio door put in its place.  Eventually, the original back door will be closed up and we will make that entry area a pantry.  The same contractor who put in the back door also framed up the wall between the master bath and the laundry  . . . they will soon be two separate rooms! Finally, on Saturday we picked up our new refridgerator.  Good-bye dorm fridge, hello big guy!  Charlie and I both laugh and feel like the Johnny Cash song "One Piece At a Time" is the story of our lives . . .   :-)

New roof in progress!
Almost finished new roof with new roof stuff (like vents or something)

New patio doors!!

Patio doors and half a bay window.  Charlie and I pulled that last part off . . . I'm pretty sure the neighbors now think we are the Clampetts.  We used a strap and a lawn tractor.  I think we should have video recorded that event.  :-)

The framed wall betweent the sink and the washing machine.

The new refridgerator! Notice that the rest of the "kitchen" is the same - two microwave carts and a microwave.
