Weekend #11

We didn't do much on the house this past weekend.  Now that we live there we have to do normal upkeep as well as renovations! Sooo last weekend was spent mowing the lawn and catching up with laundry and whatnot.  Some small things were accomplished like hanging curtain rods and we took down that HUGE satellite dish in the backyard.  Also, I got sworn into to the North Dakota Bar!! - not house relevant, but important to us.  :-)

Charlie had to cut the dish into small parts so he could put it in the back of his truck.
Gus is getting BIG! He was 23 pounds at the vet's office last week.
The crew finished rebuilding the foundation wall and put in a new window.  Next, the dirt has to go back around and we need a new garage door.
Our bedroom as it is now . . .
My closet and built in dresser
Charlie's closet and dresser.  The TV will eventually be in our living room, but this is our living room right now.  Notice the bunny ears  . . . hopefully we will get cable someday.  :-)
The other bedroom/storage.
Master bathroom

Laundry room (its open to the master bath right now but eventually they will be two separate rooms).
Getting sworn in before Judge Corwin at Traill County Courthouse.

Weekend #10

As far as progress on the inside of the house goes, not a whole lot has happened this past week or so.  Charlie and I are all finished moving in and so our time has been spent getting settled in by doing laundry and whatnot.  On Mother's Day, Charlie's parents came down to visit with our niece Isabella.  Holly and I spent the afternoon scrubbing floors (Happy Mother's Day??).  It really made a big difference, now we don't feel quite like we live in a construction zone all the time.
As for the outside of the house, the drain tile is in and done, and the garage wall is almost complete.  Next week the contractors will start on the garage floor and the attic.  The garage floor is heaved up and needs to be replaced.  We are putting heat under the floor so that should prevent heaving in the future.  We are having beams run in the attic for extra support so we can finally knock out the stud walls that are between the kitchen and living room areas.  One of the walls is load-bearing so we need the reinforcement before we open it all up.  I feel like getting those walls knocked out is the last big thing on the inside! Our cabinets should be done in the next week or so and then we can get our kitchen in! The wood floors in the living room and the bedrooms will be getting refinished in June (which is only a couple weeks away).  After all that I think the house will really feel like a home but we will still have a long way to go . . . roof, windows, siding . . . ick.  :-)

Weekend #9

Whew! This past week has been just crazy!!! The whole outside of our house was dug up so drain tile could be installed . . . and then it rained.  Long story short, you have to cross a mud moat to get into the house.  Also last week, the contractor began fixing part of the foundation.  The foundation was was cracked in the garage so the house had to be braced and the bad wall replaced.  There is nothing like seeing part of your house held up by posts - it made me really nervous! Finally, best for last, WE HAVE A BATHROOM AND SHOWER!! YAY! Charlie and I moved in!! Just last night he also got the washing machine hooked up!! It was a busy busy week!
Goodbye front steps.

The bad foundation wall.  This trench eventually went around the entire house.

Weekend warriors! Charlie's cousing Judd, his wife, Melissa, and their two boys, Damyn and Ashton came to help for the weekend as well as Melissa's brother Danny, and their dog Bernie.  We had quite a full house and a really good time.  :-)  Judd is a plumber and an incredible one at that! He worked all weekend and plumbed our whole house!

Judd in the attic working on sewer vents.  I didn't know just how complicated plumbing was until this past weekend.  It is very intensive and not at all easy.

Melissa's brother Danny and I priming the living room ceiling. We got the entire living room and entryway primed this weekend.

Helpers in the attic

Tub, toilet and laundry hookups, oh my!
