Weekends #7 & 8

I have been slacking on keeping up with this thing!!  The house is moving along and Charlie and I should be living there within a week! Yay! Don't get me wrong, it'll be pretty rustic but with one good bathroom and our mini kitchen set up we will make it work.
I missed blogging last weekend because I was visiting Aunt Polly & family in Chicago and Aunt Julie & family in Indianapolis . . . ok, I really went to see my newest cousin baby Aydan!! Charlie worked on pulling out the old plumbing and installing the new stuff.  I think we (or maybe just "I") really under estimated just how much plumbing is in a house and how long it takes to get in!
This past weekend, Charlie's sister Dani and my brother Kyle helped us out and we got a lot accomplished.  The bathroom demo was almost completely finished and then cleaned up! Dani helped all over the house - she's a jack of all trades, demo to yardwork! Kyle is the demo king.  He makes super short work of knocking out plasterboard and taking out copper pipes.
Aydan James O'Connor (my cousin Krissi's baby)

I'm a little sad posting this as most of the tulips are gone.  :-( We are having drain tile installed around the outside of the house so they have to dig up our flower beds.

My cousin Drew told me I needed some new outside shots since all I had previously posted was the middle of winter.

The front steps are being demolished as I type this to make way for drain tile.  I'm sad about that too. I liked sitting on them.  :-)

The current state of the kitchen/dining/living room.  As you can see, the kitchen is full of junk on the left.  Our makeshift kitchen is actually in the living room.

Our temporary living room.  This room will eventually be my office, but we were told we should use one of the "finished" rooms as a living room so we could "get away" when needed.

The bathroom formerly known as "pink."

RUNNING WATER!!!!  Charlie got some plumbing installed a week ago and he hooked up this utility sink in the basement.  It was a very exciting day! We had no running water up to this point. AT ALL.

More plumbing! And a new hot water heater! Yay!

Weekend #6

Charlie was  a groomsman in a wedding this weekend so we were busy on Friday evening and most of Saturday and we were unable to get any work done.  Sunday however, we did get some house related shopping in! Charlie and I got the fixtures for our master bathroom (a/k/a "the pink one").  We bought the toilet, vanity and sinks, as well as the faucets.  We wanted to double-check our measurements before we purchased our tub/shower.  We also got ourselves a lawn mower! YAY SPRING!  During the week, I did work on a little bit of yard clean-up.  There are a lot of tulips starting to come up!
When more of them are in bloom I will post a picture of the front yard.  I had to buy gardening tools for the first time ever - however Gus destroyed the bucket I bought to keep the tools in.

I couldn't quite catch him in action . . .

This is the Goose River and it's behind our house.  It's really a very pretty area.

Weekend #5

Charlie and I are definitely starting to feel the crunch to get moved in! We were at the house every night except one last week and all day Friday and Saturday.  Sunday we celebrate Easter with Charlie's family in Adams and my family in Crystal.
Kyle came on Tuesday and helped us out a lot.
The outlets all need replacing . . .
Kyle also happened to make short work of bathroom wall demolition.
We are making the master bathroom just a little larger and the laundry room a little smaller.
Our kitchen - stocked with snacks!
Our "stove" - needless to say, we've been eating a lot of hamburgers and brats!
Charlie is pretty proud of his very own garage with his stuff.
I finished painting the hallway and the bedroom we are making into a den. Gus also worked very hard.
The den/office
Den.
We plan on getting the wood floors refinished but for now I scrubbed them with Murphy's Oil Soap, which made a world of difference!  However, I need to limit myself to one room a weekend, I was VERY sore after doing the whole room and the closets.
The two above pictures are the master bedroom.  The bedroom is done except for the floor refinishing, which won't happen until sometime this summer.
Painting in the hallway is also finished!
